The great thing about games like this one for a Coach is that you learn so much about individuals. You really get to find out who is willing to roll up their sleeves and guts it out. Most importantly when you look into the players eyes you get to see who really cares.
I can only congratulate Continental. I watched them and I saw the hunger that our players used to have. They turned up today to win at all costs and to go down fighting if they couldn’t. I doubt that 9 of the players would even get into our squad but on sheer determination they thoroughly deserved their win.
The goal came from a rare mistake from Stevo. He more than made up for it with several fine saves. Some of our defenders really gave it a good go against two forwards who were a handful. Mark was once again the pick of our players with they type of performance to be proud of. Dylan looked like our only player capable of doing anything at the other end.
Today on several occasions I saw certain players un willing to chase the ball if it didn’t go exactly where they wanted it. I saw players turn their back on the ball. I saw players who refuse to head the ball. I saw players who wouldn’t tackle.
After the Chelmsley game I said that we couldn’t expect to beat teams if we only had 6 people putting in the effort. Today we had 5.
