A worryingly bad display to get the new year up and running has really put the cat amongst the pigeons with regard to our goals for the rest of the season. We knew we needed points from the recent Coleshill and Chelmsley games to latch onto the teams above us. Failure in both of the games has left us in a 3 horse race to stay up at the bottom.

We continue to perform well against what would be considered the top teams and then to go and throw the hard work away against the teams around us with lacklustre performances. After several top training sessions in recent times and the long break through Christmas and bad weather I was expecting a performance full of hunger and desire from our boys. Sadly, the mere words “Chelmsley Town” once again appears to have intimated half of our players. Players performing badly is one thing but to see so many pulling out of tackles and headers was extremely sad from my point of view.

Credit to Chelmsley though, they have 11 players who give their all to win every game. Unfortunately some of our lads pick and choose the games that they will and won’t perform in.

A couple of positives were the fact that we managed to score 2 goals when we played so poorly. Ross opened his account for us after Jack Davies had a good low shot parried by the keeper. Matty scored a penalty after good work from Dylan in the box but the game was over long before then.

The next test for us will be Ulverley and hopefully we can knuckle down again and start to show this division what we are capable of.
